Featured Presentation

Database cloning

Speaker: Kirill Kravtsov, Database Administrator Wawanesa Mutual Insurance

Summary: One of the most regularly occurring tasks of a SQL Server DBA is database cloning. There is a surprisingly large number of ways how to clone a database and on this session I will go through each of them and talk about their strengths and weaknesses. Some of the neat tricks that you will see: * How to clone a database without an intermediate database dump * How to clone a database without data * How to clone a database to a previous(!) version of SQL Server * How to mask sensitive data in a clone * ... and how to automate all of the above using TSQL and/or Powershell

About Kirill: DBA for more than 10 years, Powershell enthusiast and major dbatools contributor. I'm also a huge fan of DevOps mentality and an active Jenkins user, which left me with no choice other than using and developing tools that automate most of the aspects of the database management. In my free time I enjoy travelling, playing video games, heavy metal music and many more.
