Featured Presentation

SQL Server Best Practices

Speaker: Nikola Karpisek, Database Administrator Wawanesa Insurance

Summary: Throughout the Internet there is a lot of valuable information on how SQL Server and databases should be configured. When all things are taken into consideration, I’ll show that some settings are not for everybody. In this presentation we’ll cover best practices which will benefit true and accidental DBA’s. The presentation will include database maintenance recommendations, database and server configuration options as well as buffer and index configuration. When server and database settings are covered we’ll go deeper and show you standard index and table recommendations.

About Nikola: Forging his nerves in a technical support role, Nikola jumped, fresh and strong into consultant chair where he worked on several high impact systems for different ministries, banks and oil companies in Croatia. Getting more familiar with the administrative type of work with SQL Server databases a strange decision was made to cross onto to the dark side and become a DBA. He saw a lot but some strange desire is pushing him to see more and more. He is a father of two girls and a husband who moved with his family to Winnipeg in 2011 so that he can spend more time on sunny beaches with umbrella in his drink. Current hobbies are rocking to sleep and fighting crocodiles from the closet but sometimes he manages to sneaks out and builds a snowman…with umbrella in his drink, of course.
