Featured Presentation

HA/DR Round-table discussion

Speaker: Michael DeFehr, Consultant MDD Solutions

Summary: This session will be a little different. We will hear from you about how you protect your data and keep your systems available. Everyone tends to have a slightly different set of requirements and a different approach to High Availabiliy and Disaster Recovery. The idea behind this session is to see how the rest of us think about it, and we might get some ideas about how to make our own solutions better. If you do not want to or are not allowed to talk about your solution, don't worry - I will not call you out - In fact, I would like to know who is going to outline their solution ahead of time so I can plan for the session. Please email me at mike-at-defehr-dot-com if you can take the floor for a couple of minutes to walk us through your environment. Some examples of questions you might want to address are: - Do you have an SLA and what is it? What can you tell us about the process that let you to your SLA numbers? - What technologies, techniques, third party solutions do you use for high availability? (more or less defined as fast recovery from predictable or isolated failures such as a hard drive failure, a power surge/outage or system component failure) - What technologies, techniques, third party solutions do you use for disaster recovery? (more or less defined as recoverability from unpredictable, widespread or environmental events that affect your system in ways you cannot anticipate) - Do you test your HA/DR setups? What kind of tests? How often? - Any war stories? Tell us about an event that has occurred and how you or the person whose responsibility it was reacted. Did the solution work? If you have a diagram you want to put on the screen or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
